Footballer death: A pall of gloom descended on the Indian football fraternity after an Indian soccer player, Ravinder Singh, died at the age of 25 following a sudden cardiac arrest during a match in Punjab earlier this week. The 25-year-old defender was associated with Namdhari FC in the Indian football league, and collapsed on the pitch after complaining of severe chest pain while playing in a local league tournament. 



Singh was a native of Majri village near Ludhiana

According to reports, Singh was a native of Majri village in Punjab’s Ludhiana district. He had actively been competing in a local football fixture when the incident transpired. Reports claim that he suddenly fell on the ground after experiencing discomfort in his chest during the game. He was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead later. They confirmed that Singh had fallen prey to a sudden cardiac arrest.



Last rites performed in native village


Singh’s final rites were performed in his native village, Majri, where his family members, friends and fellow players gathered and bid him a tearful farewell. His brother Bhupender led the funeral procession and consigned him to flames. 



Namdhari FC mourns loss, issues statement


Namdhari FC mourned the loss of the young athlete and expressed grief via a social media post, in which they described his passing as a huge loss to the football community. The club prayed for peace for the departed soul. Meanwhile, tributes poured in from the Indian Football League too. The league announced that a minute’s silence would be observed before every match in Matchweek 3 to honour Singh’s memory.
