Professor proposes student video: Tension gripped the Sri Siddhartha Medical College in Karnataka’s Tumkur on Thursday, after an assistant professor allegedly proposed to a female student in front of an entire class, triggering outrage. Following the proposal, the students of the college bashed up the assistant professor on the campus premises, leading to his suspension from the institute and a First Information Report (FIR) registered against him.
Notably, the college is associated with Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara.

Incident’s video goes viral
According to videos recorded by students, which have now gone viral online, the professor, identified as Abdul, made the unexpected proposal during the lecture. While addressing the class, he expressed gratitude for the affection shown by the batch before declaring his intention to propose to ‘one of the most important girls’ in the group.
He concluded by saying ‘I love you’ to the student, and offered chocolates to classmates. However, the gesture left the student visibly uncomfortable and sparked immediate confrontation.
Heated exchange ensues inside classroom
Following the act, the student asked Abdul to report to the principal. During the exchange, Abdul claimed that the student had previously expressed her feelings for him and even asserted that he had evidence, including CCTV footage.
On the other hand, the student denied the claim and demanded proof. The conversation ended inconclusively, and the professor said he would address the issue later. The student, however, refused further discussion.
Students thrash Abdul on campus premises

As news of the incident spread across campus, tensions heightened. Groups of students confronted Abdul, leading to an altercation that quickly spiralled into violence. In one of the circulating videos, the student is seen striking Abdul with her footwear, while others join in the assault. Abdul was subsequently chased across the campus and was attacked again near his vehicle, before he managed to flee.
FIR registered, authorities say he faced complaints previously
The police said an FIR has been registered against Abdul and a probe is underway. Meanwhile, the college authorities revealed that the accused had faced complaints earlier too from students over alleged inappropriate behaviour. Acting on earlier complaints, the college management had served him a notice and had restricted his entry to the campus. Despite this, he allegedly entered the premises and repeated misconduct. The authorities added that Abdul has been suspended from the institute following the act.
The complainant has also submitted copies of earlier grievances filed against Abdul.
