Dispute Over Road Widening
The immediate dispute concerns a portion of the Shahi Masjid that falls within the alignment of the proposed road-widening project. Authorities are widening the approximately 900-metre stretch between Kanthal Square and Gopal Mandir by around 15 metres as part of preparations for Simhastha 2028.
The section of the mosque identified for removal has been reported to measure approximately 9 feet in length and 4 feet in width. The proposed action has been opposed by members of the local Muslim community, leading to protests and negotiations with the administration.

Fresh Stone-Pelting Reported
On Monday morning, a large crowd gathered near the mosque and began protesting against the proposed removal. According to reports, protesters allegedly pelted stones at police personnel after tensions rose at the site.
Police responded by firing tear-gas shells and using force to disperse the crowd. Heavy security was deployed around the area, with additional personnel brought in from surrounding districts. Authorities also restricted movement in nearby lanes to prevent further gatherings.

Female Police Officer Injured
During efforts to manage the protest, a female police officer sustained an injury while dealing with a group of protesting women. Police said the officer suffered a cut on her hand while officers were attempting to safely move the women from the road.
The officer received first aid at the spot. Officials said the protesting women were not injured during the incident.

High Court Hearing Scheduled
The dispute is also connected to legal proceedings, with a hearing scheduled before the Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, the administration has maintained a heavy police presence in the area as authorities continue efforts to prevent further escalation. The situation remains sensitive amid the ongoing road-widening work linked to preparations for Simhastha 2028.
