A 35-year-old man, attached to a government school in Rajasthan’s Churu, allegedly abducted and raped a female Class 11 student during the school’s lunch break on Friday, the police reported on Saturday. According to police, the accused teacher was a physical training instructor (PTI) at the school, who has been absconding since the incident, and multiple police teams have been constituted to trace and apprehend him.

Girl’s father lodges FIR

As per the FIR lodged by the survivor girl’s father, the accused threatened the minor girl during the lunch break, forced her to sit on his bike, and took her to his house, where he violated her. Sujangarh Circle Officer (CO) Darjaram told the media that he is probing the case, adding that after returning home, the girl narrated the ordeal to her kin, following which her father approached the Sandwa Police Station and filed a complaint.

 

Accused booked under POCSO Act

On the basis of the complaint, police involved the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused. Darjaram further said the survivor underwent a medical examination, while a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has inspected the crime scene to collect evidence. 

The officer then said the survivor girl’s statement is yet to be recorded before a magistrate under the relevant legal provisions. 

Protests erupt outside the school

In the aftermath of the incident, local residents and the girl’s kin staged protests erupted outside the school where the accused was attached to. The protestors locked the school’s main gate and demanded that the accused be arrested immediately. 

The cops rushed to the school, pacified the protestors and persuaded them to call off the agitation after assuring them of strict action against the accused. The police said further probe into the incident is underway.
