Actor and self-styled political commentator Prakash Raj on Sunday urged the people of Tamil Nadu to give the state’s Chief Minister (CM) C Joseph Vijay more time before assessing his governance, saying it is too early to draw conclusion just after him spending 120 days in the office.

Addressing the media in Tiruchirappalli, Raj said Vijay should be given at least a year to deliver on his promises before his government’s performance is judged. His remarks surfaced amid heightened attention on the first few months of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government.

Raj was quoted as saying by news agency ANI, “Vijay is the Chief Minister not only for those who voted for him but also for those who did not vote for him. He should be given more time. At least one year should be allowed before commenting on the performance of his government.”

Raj clarified that his call for patience did not mean he had no reservations about the TVK chief. He asserted, “I have several doubts about Vijay. I had spoken about them even before the election. But they have won and formed the government,” adding that 120 days was not a significant period of time to arrive at a conclusion about the administration.

He went on to say that he would question the TN government if it failed to perform adequately even after a year. He said, “I am waiting until the first Budget. There is no need to criticise them immediately. Just because we do not like those in power, we should not rush to criticise them. We must respect democracy and the people.”

Raj comments on Vijay’s foreign trip

When asked about Vijay’s foreign trip, Raj remarked that there was nothing inherently wrong with the CM travelling overseas and meeting his friend and Kollywood actor Ajith Kumar.

He asserted, “What I would look at is whether he accomplished the purpose for which he went,” referring to Vijay’s claim that his visit had helped bring investments valued at several thousand crore rupees to Tamil Nadu.

He made the comments as Vijay’s government completes its initial months in office after a dramatic electoral debut by TVK.

Vijay rose to power in TN 2026 Assembly Polls

TVK chief C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as Tamil Nadu CM on May 10, 2026, after his party emerged as the single-largest force in the 234-member Assembly with 108 seats. He secured the support of alliance partners and other legislators, elevating the total backing to 120 MLAs.

Vijay’s swearing-in marked the formation of a government outside the DMK-AIADMK formations for the first time in nearly six decades.

CM Vijay’s initial days in the office saw him clear files concerning 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers, a special force for women’s safety and anti-drug squads across the state.
