The highly-awaited operations at the Noida International Airport are set to commence from June 15, 2026, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation landscape. The airport is situated in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, and is expected to slash the mounting pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, considered as one of the country’s busiest aviation hubs.

Officials confirmed on Friday that the airport has received crucial clearance for its Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. This approval begins a mandatory 45-day countdown before flight operations can begin at an airport in India.

Airlines which are set to launch operations

Leading domestic carrier IndiGo is expected to be the first airline to commence operations from the new airport. Meanwhile, other carriers like Akasa Air and Air India Express are also buckling up to launch services from there.

Initially, the airport will connect to key metro cities like Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Additionally, the airlines from West Asia and Southeast Asia have also expressed interest in commencing international operations from Jewar Airport, expected within a few months after domestic services stabilise.

Ahead of the operations, discussions are underway between airport authorities and airlines regarding flight schedules and slot allocations. While ticket bookings are expected to open soon, an official date for reservations is yet to be announced.

Airport built at a cost of Rs 11.2k crore

The first phase of the airport has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 11,200 crore under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. It will feature a single runway and terminal, and boasts a capacity to handle up to 12 million passengers annually.

Once it is fully developed across four phases, the airport is projected to accommodate close to 70 million passengers each year, which will cement it among the largest aviation hubs in the region.
