The Mirzapur juggernaut has marked an explosive transition from the OTT to the silver screen. After months of speculation over whether one of India’s most popular web series could drive audiences to pay for a theatrical experience, the film appears to have delivered a resounding answer.
The gangster saga has opened strongly at the box office, cementing its status as what could become Bollywood’s biggest-ever opening day for a film lacking stars.

The film was likely to receive a strong opening after its teaser generated considerable buzz earlier this year. Its performance in key mass markets, such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi, has reportedly exceeded expectations. Initially, the trade experts had projected an opening day collection of Rs 18-20 crore, but later revised their estimates upwards as advanced bookings and audience interest gathered steam.
As per Sacnilk, Mirzapur: The Movie, amassed Rs 12 crore net by 4 PM on its opening day. The film registered an occupancy of around 26% during morning shows, which spiked to 41% in the afternoon.

With reviews reportedly leaning positive, the film is likely to see an upswing in audience turnout during the evening and night shows, potentially elevating its first-day collection well beyond the Rs 20-crore mark.
Alongside Hindi, the Telugu dubbed version of the film has also been released. However, the latter has made little impact so far, as it managed to rake in just Rs 10 lakh. As expected, the overwhelming share of the movie’s earnings has come from its original Hindi version.
Film set to trump Saiyaara, Awarapan 2
If the film’s current momentum continues, it could place its leading cast members, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu, in an elite box-office bracket. Currently, the film is being estimated to surpass the Rs 25-crore mark on its opening day. If it does so, it would breach the opening-day collections of recent sleeper successes such as Saiyaara, which minted Rs 22 crore, and Awarapan 2, which opened at Rs 21.50 crore.
