A man attempted suicide by setting himself on fire at the Bhimgal Police Station in Telangana’s Nizamabad district on Monday. The man has been identified as Polasa Sudhakar, who runs a hotel in Bhimgal town. He suffered severe burn injuries and was shifted to Armoor Hospital for treatment.
Dispute Over Tables Outside Hotel
According to reports, the incident was linked to a dispute over tables placed outside Sudhakar’s hotel. Police had reportedly asked him to remove the tables after 10 pm. A case was subsequently registered against him at the Bhimgal Police Station.
Family Alleges Police Pressure
Sudhakar’s family alleged that he had been under pressure because of police action in connection with the matter. Reports said that he had earlier assured authorities that he would not repeat the violation.
Sudhakar Sets Himself on Fire
Police later summoned Sudhakar to the station in connection with the case, reportedly informing him that he had to appear in court. During his visit to the police station, Sudhakar allegedly poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire.
Condition Reportedly Critical
Police personnel immediately responded to the incident and shifted him for medical treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Armoor Hospital. Reports have described his condition as critical.
Police Investigating the Incident
The incident has raised questions over the circumstances leading to the suicide attempt. Sudhakar’s family has alleged harassment by the police, while the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
