The authorities in Delhi are gearing up to ensure extensive security measures, while disruptions in transport are also on the cards, ahead of a proposed protest by the pressure group, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on Saturday. The objective of the demonstration is to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Delhi Police said they have denied permission for the protest and restrictions have been imposed at 57 metro stations. Moreover, several trains are also likely to be cancelled, leaving the commuters in a lurch.

Meanwhile, close to 23,000 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) shall be deployed across the national capital as part of enhanced security measures.

Here’s why Delhi Police denied permission

The Delhi Police have denied permission for the proposed stir, citing the failure to provide the mandatory 10-day advance intimation. Officials also pointed out alleged violations of guidelines during the protest held earlier by the group, saying that the decision was finalised in the interest of public safety.

Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in parts of Central Delhi. Police have warned that flouting the restrictions may result in legal action, amid concerns about protestors potentially moving towards sensitive locations around Jantar Mantar and the New Delhi district.

Curbs into effect at 57 metro stations

Metro services are highly likely to face tremendous disruption, as the entry and exit gates at 57 stations are scheduled to close from 9 pm on Friday, as per the advisory issued ahead of the proposed agitation.

Metro trains passing through the affected stations may also operate at low frequencies. Names of the stations which shall be affected include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, New Delhi, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market, Lok Kalyan Marg, Udyog Bhawan, Kashmere Gate, Hauz Khas, INA and Lajpat Nagar.

Daily commuters are likely to be hit by restrictions, particularly the ones relying on interchange stations and key routes across the city. Passengers have been advised to go through the latest Metro service updates before heading outdoors.

Deployment of 23k CAPF personnel

As per sources, close to 23,000 CAPF personnel are being deployed in Delhi. The Union Home Ministry, according to sources, has approved the deployment of 221 CAPF companies from October 8 to 12, 2026, besides 110 companies already provided to Delhi Police.

The deployment includes 85 Central Reserve Police Force companies, 10 companies attached to the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), seven Indo-Tibetan Border Police companies, seven Rapid Action Force (RAF) companies and one Central Industrial Security Force company.

Officials aware of the development said multi-layered barricades would be laid, while CCTV cameras shall be monitored from a control room. Facial Recognition System cameras are also likely to be installed across the capital.

Moreover, neighbouring states, such as Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, have also been asked to exercise caution during the protest period as authorities persevere in efforts to manage potential security challenges.
