Abhijeet Dipke’s pre-recorded video announces a change in protest leadership following the detention of three key CJP leaders ahead of the October 10 demonstration.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced that its organisation in-charge, Ajinkya Shinde, will lead its planned protest at Jantar Mantar as long as founder Abhijeet Dipke and fellow leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka remain in detention.
The announcement was made through a pre-recorded video released by Dipke, who had reportedly recorded the message on Friday night in anticipation of a possible arrest. The development follows the detention of the three leaders by Delhi Police shortly after their flight landed in the national capital on Saturday.
Dipke Anticipated Possible Detention
In the video, Dipke identified Shinde as the person who would take charge of the demonstration if the party’s senior leadership was detained.
The advance recording suggests that the organisation had prepared for the possibility of its key leaders being unable to attend the protest. The party has indicated that its demonstration plans would continue despite the detentions.
Protest Demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation
The CJP’s planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar is aimed at demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Protesters have raised concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and called for greater accountability from the Election Commission.
The allegations raised by protest organisers remain contested and should not be treated as established findings of wrongdoing.
Security Tightened Across the Capital
Delhi Police detained Dipke, Das and Ranka amid heightened security ahead of the proposed demonstration. Authorities had reportedly denied permission for the protest, citing procedural requirements, and preventive measures were put in place to manage the gathering.
The leadership change now places Shinde at the centre of the CJP’s protest plans as the organisation seeks to proceed without its detained leaders. With its top leaders in detention, the CJP has named a new face to lead its demonstration, keeping its demand for CEC accountability at the centre of the protest.
