Savitribai Shankarrao Dipke, the paternal grandmother of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, passed away on Saturday, October 10, in Santuk Pimpri village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district. She was 85 and had reportedly been unwell for some time.
Her death came hours after Delhi Police detained Dipke upon his arrival in the national capital for a planned protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Dipke Remains in Detention
Dipke was detained along with fellow CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after their flight landed in Delhi. The leaders had travelled to the capital to participate in the planned demonstration concerning alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.
According to reports citing police sources, Dipke was informed about his grandmother’s death while in detention. Delhi Police said he could decide whether to remain in Delhi or return to Maharashtra to attend the last rites.
Family Prepares for Last Rites
Savitribai had been living in the family’s native village, where her last rites were scheduled for Sunday morning, according to media reports. The news has brought grief to the Dipke family as the political developments surrounding the planned protest continue.
Detention Draws Renewed Attention
Dipke’s detention had already attracted attention after CJP announced plans to protest against the Election Commission. The demonstration was intended to raise questions about the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and demand greater accountability from the CEC.
The circumstances surrounding Dipke’s detention and his ability to attend the funeral have added a personal dimension to the unfolding events. As the Dipke family mourns its loss, attention remains on whether Abhijeet Dipke will be able to return home for his grandmother’s final rites.
