MP education: The Madhya Pradesh government has landed on a key decision aimed at stepping up the education of girls across the state. The state’s Women and Child Development Department has introduced the ‘Saraswati Abhiyaan’ under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana, which seeks to bring back the school dropout girls into the mainstream education system, and provide them with learning opportunities.

CM Dr Yadav to flag the campaign on March 10
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the campaign on March 10, 2026, at an event slated to be held in Bhopal’s Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium. As per a statement by the Department of Public Relations (DPR) of MP, the officials ensuring their presence at the event will also present the department’s action plan and strategies devised to reconnect girls who had dropped out of school.

Girls to be given another chance to pursue education
According to the DPR officials, the girls who had to give up their studies owing to social, economic or family-related reasons will receive another chance to pursue their education as part of the campaign. Moreover, the initiative will enable them to appear for Class 8, 10 and 12 examinations by means of the State Open School System. Additionally, the girls will receive study materials, academic guidance, mentoring support and contact classes, so that they can complete their school education smoothly. As per officials, the initiative’s goal is not only to help the girls finish their schooling, but also to facilitate higher education and future employment for them.
School dropout issue severe in rural areas of MP
A statement issued by the National Family Health Survey read that a huge number of girls in the state drop out of school before completing their Class 8, 10 or intermediate. They are unable to resume their education after dropping out of school. Notably, the issue is severe in backward and rural areas of the state, where the social and economic challenges deal a major blow to girls’ school education.
Girls who pass exams to be awarded certificates
The Saraswati Abhiyaan, as part of its preliminary step, will begin with a survey to identify those girls across the state who have dropped out of school. The students, once identified, will be enrolled in the State Open School Programme. The girls who pass their respective exams will be awarded certificates.
The initiative is also being seen as a move to curb social issues such as child marriage.
