MP CM blog: Marking the beginning of Nav Samvatsar (traditional Hindu New Year), MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav has outlined an ambitious roadmap on Wednesday, centred on agriculture, water conservation and overall development in a detailed blog post. The Chief Minister described the commencement of Vikram Samvat 2083 as a moment of cultural pride, noting its historic roots in Ujjain.

He emphasised that the New Year, beginning on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, symbolises India’s scientific outlook, cultural consciousness and harmony with nature.
Tribute to Vikramaditya and Cultural Heritage
Highlighting the legacy of Vikramaditya, Yadav said the Vikram Samvat calendar represents India’s identity and civilisational ethos. He praised the legendary ruler’s governance, justice and administrative excellence, calling them enduring inspirations for modern governance. To celebrate this legacy, the state is organising Vikramotsav 2026, a 139-day festival running from 12 February to 30 June 2026, featuring cultural and intellectual programmes.

Ujjain’s Scientific and Spiritual Significance
The Chief Minister underlined Ujjain’s historical role as a centre of astronomy and spiritual learning, referencing its ancient observatory traditions. He also credited Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi for reviving the Vikramaditya Vedic clock, describing it as a step towards reconnecting modern India with its traditional timekeeping systems.
Focus on Farmers and Rural Economy
Declaring the year as a “Farmers’ Welfare Year”, Yadav stressed that agriculture remains the backbone of Madhya Pradesh’s economy. He revealed that projects worth ₹27,500 crore were approved during the state’s first Agriculture Cabinet meeting held in Barwani district.
The government is promoting modern farming techniques, irrigation expansion, natural farming and value addition to boost farmers’ incomes and strengthen rural livelihoods.
Water Conservation Drive Launched

On the occasion of the New Year, the state has launched the “Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan” from the banks of the Shipra River in Ujjain. The campaign aims to combine traditional water conservation practices with modern innovations to protect water resources.
Vision for Growth and Heritage
Yadav reiterated the government’s commitment to balancing heritage with development, highlighting ongoing efforts to develop key religious destinations such as Omkareshwar, Ujjain and Maihar. Preparations are also underway for the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh.
Calling for public participation, the Chief Minister urged citizens to turn conservation efforts into a mass movement, expressing confidence that the New Year will usher in prosperity and progress for the state.
