Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav honoured police and Home Guard personnel with medals conferred by the President during the state-level Independence Day celebrations at Lal Parade Ground. The medal presentation ceremony recognised officers and personnel for distinguished and meritorious service, while two Best Life-Saving Medals were also presented.

A total of 47 personnel were honoured at the ceremony. CM Dr Yadav presented nine President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 33 President’s Police Medals for Meritorious Service. Three Home Guard personnel were also presented the President’s Medals for Meritorious Service.

Nine police personnel receive Distinguished Service Medals

Among those conferred the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service were Yogesh Deshmukh, Director General/Additional Managing Director, Lokayukta, Madhya Pradesh; Makarand Deuskar, Inspector General of Police, BSF, New Delhi; Rakesh Gupta, Additional Director General of Police, Ujjain Zone; Santosh Kumar Singh, Director General of Police/Police Commissioner, Indore; and Mithilesh Kumar Shukla, Inspector General of Police, Sagar Zone.

The honour was also bestowed upon Awdhesh Kumar Goswami, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Welfare/Accounts, Police Headquarters, Bhopal; retired Inspector Shivkumar Patel of the Special Branch, Indore; Head Constable Walter Henry Ekka of the 25th Battalion, SAF, Bhopal; and Head Constable (Arms) Devendra Kumar Kaushal of the 7th Battalion, Bhopal.

33 honoured for meritorious service

A total of 33 police officers and personnel received the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. The recipients included senior officers from the Home Department, police headquarters, special branches, Lokayukta, STF, cyber headquarters, EOW, ATS and district police units across Madhya Pradesh.

The list also included officers and personnel from Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Sagar, Shajapur and other districts. Among them were Krishnaaveni Deshavatu, Dharmendra Singh Bhadoria, Vijay Kumar Khatri, Manoj Kumar Rai, Geetesh Kumar Garg, Elridge Vincent Singh, Rajesh Sahay, Durgesh Kumar Rathore and Neeraj Pandey.

Several inspectors, sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, head constables and constables were also recognised for their meritorious service.

Home Guard personnel, life-savers honoured

The President’s Home Guard and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service was presented to volunteer Lance Naik No. 45 Santosh Kumar Shukla of Shajapur district, volunteer CQMS No. 57 Sunil Kumar Jain of Ujjain district and volunteer Lance Naik No. 35 Narendra Awasthi of Indore district.

The Best Life-Saving Medal was conferred posthumously on the late Manohar Singh Chauhan of Mandsaur district, with the medal received by his representative. Acting Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajendra Prasad Mishra of Damoh district was also presented the honour.

The Independence Day parade featured 22 contingents, including the police band. The participating contingents included the Maharashtra Police, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, BSF, CISF, Hawk Force, STF, women’s contingents, Special Armed Force units, district police, prison department, Government Railway Police, Home Guards, NCC units, Guides, Scouts, Shaurya Dal, the police band and the mounted contingent.

The ceremony thus combined the celebration of Independence Day with a formal recognition of personnel whose service and courage have contributed to public safety and the state’s security apparatus.
