More than 4,500 contractual officers and employees working with Madhya Pradesh’s power companies have threatened agitation over the delay in issuing the examination notification for their proposed regular appointments.

The United Forum for Power Employees and Engineers has set October 5 as a deadline for the notification. The forum has warned that if the notification is not issued by then, it will begin a one-day sit-in protest. If the issue remains unresolved, the employees’ organisation has threatened to issue a seven-day notice before Diwali and proceed with an indefinite work boycott.

Employees Warn of Possible Power Impact

The warning has been issued by the employees’ forum, not by the Madhya Pradesh government. The forum has cautioned that an indefinite work boycott could affect power-related services across the state.

The agitation threat comes amid delays in implementing a regular appointment scheme announced by the Madhya Pradesh Energy Department. Reports indicate that the appointment process is targeted for completion by October 31, 2026.

Energy Department Issued Scheme on July 24

The Madhya Pradesh Energy Department issued the New Appointment Scheme-2026 on July 24 for eligible personnel working on contract against equivalent regular posts.

The scheme covers eligible contractual employees of the Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company, East Zone Power Distribution Company, West Zone Power Distribution Company, Central Zone Power Distribution Company and Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company.

Posts covered include Line Attendant, Testing Attendant, Junior Engineer and Assistant Engineer.

Selection Through Online Examination

Under the scheme, eligible employees must have completed at least two years of contractual service with the concerned company by the prescribed date. Selection will be based on marks obtained in an online examination along with bonus marks linked to contractual service.

Government reservation rules will apply, while eligible candidates will also receive age relaxation. Appointments will be made only against available equivalent regular vacancies.

The Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company is excluded from the scheme. Selected employees will have to resign from their contractual posts before receiving regular appointments.
