Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Monday urged citizens to remain vigilant during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, asking them not to pay heed to rumours and to ensure that their names and details are correctly reflected in the voter list.
Emphasising the importance of informed participation in a democracy, CM Dr Yadav said every responsible voter has a role to play in strengthening the democratic system. He also underlined the need for electoral rolls to remain updated, transparent and reliable.

SIR aims to verify electoral rolls
The Chief Minister described the Special Intensive Revision, being conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI), as an important exercise for verifying voter lists. According to the ECI, the process is intended to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons. The Commission currently provides dedicated SIR-2026 services through its voter portal.
CM Dr Yadav urged people to actively participate in the process and check their electoral details rather than assume that their names and information would automatically remain unchanged.
‘Do not pay heed to rumours’
The Chief Minister appealed to citizens not to be misled by rumours or confusion surrounding the SIR exercise. He said the electoral-roll revision is being carried out according to the procedure prescribed by the Election Commission.
He advised people to rely only on official information issued by the Election Commission and follow the stipulated process for any voter-related requirement. The ECI’s voter services platform allows citizens to search their names in the electoral roll and access various registration and update services.
Form 6 facility for new voters
CM Dr Yadav also referred to Form 6 and the accompanying declaration process, urging citizens to obtain the correct information before submitting their details. The Election Commission provides Form 6 for people seeking inclusion in the electoral roll as new voters. The current ECI portal specifically directs citizens aged 18 or above, or those who will turn 18 within the relevant period, to use Form 6 for new voter registration.

The ECI’s guidelines state that Form 6 is submitted to the Electoral Registration Officer of the constituency where the applicant ordinarily resides. Applicants are required to provide relevant details and supporting documents as prescribed.
Appeal to young voters
The Chief Minister made a special appeal to young people who have attained the age of 18 to get their names enrolled in the electoral roll. He also asked every citizen to verify whether their name and personal details are correctly recorded.
The Election Commission provides online facilities for searching names in electoral rolls, checking registration details and accessing voter-related services. Citizens can also use the Voter Helpline and other official ECI platforms for assistance.
Citizens’ role in strengthening democracy
MP CM Dr Yadav
CM Dr Yadav said maintaining a credible and accurate electoral roll is not solely the responsibility of the election machinery; citizens also have an important role in the process. He called upon people to fulfil their responsibility by checking their electoral details and cooperating with the SIR exercise.
His appeal comes amid continuing discussion around the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with the ECI undertaking the exercise in several states, including Madhya Pradesh.
