Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Thursday said the state is firmly committed to contributing towards India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. Addressing the 7th International Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition-2026 in New Delhi, the Chief Minister highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s rapid progress in renewable energy, energy storage and green industrial development.

CM Dr Yadav said Madhya Pradesh has established itself as one of the country’s leading states in the clean energy sector and is rapidly emerging as a major green energy hub due to investor-friendly policies, strong infrastructure and abundant natural resources.

CM takes Delhi Metro ride to promote clean transportation

Ahead of the conference, Chief Minister Dr Yadav travelled from the airport to Shivaji Stadium via the Airport Express Line of the Delhi Metro, sending a message in favour of clean and environment-friendly public transport.

The Chief Minister chose the metro as a symbol of his commitment towards green energy, as the Delhi Metro uses solar power on a large scale for its operations.

Madhya Pradesh showcases renewable energy achievements

During the international conference, Madhya Pradesh presented its achievements and future roadmap in the clean and renewable energy sector. The inaugural session was attended by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Education Pralhad Joshi, Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Bhutan’s Minister for Energy and Natural Resources HE Lyonpo Gem Tshering, Sri Lanka’s Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka, Madhya Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary for New and Renewable Energy Manu Srivastava, along with global energy experts, policymakers and industry representatives.

CM Dr Yadav said the state’s renewable energy capacity has witnessed remarkable growth over the past 12 years, rising from 438 MW to 11,000 MW; nearly a 25-fold increase.

Rewa solar project sets global benchmark

Highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s achievements, the Chief Minister said the 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project became the first project in India where solar power tariffs were established lower than coal-based electricity rates.

The project received the World Bank Group President’s Award for Excellence, while its case study is also taught at Harvard University.

He further said the 1,500 MW Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch solar project achieved a record-low solar tariff of Rs 2.14 per unit. The project is supplying green energy to Indian Railways across eight states.

CM Dr Yadav also mentioned that India’s largest floating solar project with a capacity of 278 MW was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2025.

Focus on energy storage and solar-powered agriculture

The Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh is also accelerating the development of battery energy storage systems to strengthen energy security and grid stability.

The 440 MW solar power and 880 MWh battery storage project in Morena is the state’s first project where electricity purchase agreements have been signed at competitive rates. Work is also underway on solar-plus-energy-storage projects with four-hour, six-hour and 24-hour storage capacities.

Under rooftop solar initiatives, 48 MW capacity is being developed across 1,300 government buildings. Meanwhile, under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, around 1.5 lakh households in Madhya Pradesh have already installed rooftop solar plants with a combined capacity of 566 MW.

India advancing rapidly in clean energy sector: Pralhad Joshi

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said India, under Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s leadership, is moving swiftly towards a clean and green energy future.

He said the country would soon cross the milestone of 300 GW installed non-fossil electricity capacity, while more than 50 lakh families are benefiting from rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

Joshi praised the contribution of Madhya Pradesh and other states in expanding renewable energy capacity and urged all states to focus on sustainable development, energy efficiency, environmental protection and wider adoption of clean energy solutions.

CM Dr Yadav expressed confidence that Madhya Pradesh would become a leading national centre for clean energy, energy security and sustainable development in the coming years.
