Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Friday said the Madhya Pradesh government remains committed to strengthening healthcare services through traditional Indian systems of medicine and ensuring that the benefits of AYUSH initiatives reach every citizen.

His remarks came during a review meeting of the AYUSH Department at the state secretariat on Friday. During the meeting, he said the establishment of Ayurvedic treatment facilities and wellness centres at religious tourism destinations across the state was a commendable step. He directed officials to study successful models and innovations implemented in other states and ensure their effective execution in Madhya Pradesh.

CM lauds Vayomitra, Karunya programme

CM Dr Yadav called for the need to widely publicise such initiatives so that people across the state could access their benefits. He also praised the ‘Vayomitra’ programme, which provides door-to-door AYUSH care for elderly citizens, calling it a useful and citizen-centric initiative.

The Chief Minister further appreciated the ‘Karunya’ programme, aimed at improving the quality of life of patients suffering from incurable diseases.

Wellness centres being developed in 12 districts

Officials informed the Chief Minister in the meeting that 12 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres are being established in partnership with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board under a memorandum of understanding.

The centres are being developed at major tourist and heritage locations including Khajuraho, Omkareshwar, Chanderi, Chitrakoot, Pachmarhi and Orchha, along with Ujjain, Datia, Mandsaur, Alirajpur, Singrauli and Agar Malwa.

CM Dr Yadav said traditional Indian medical systems should be promoted alongside allopathy, noting that many renowned Ayurvedic practitioners in the state continue to benefit patients through non-surgical treatments and natural healing methods.

Panchakarma units and AYUSH wings to be expanded

The Chief Minister said separate AYUSH wings were being established in district-level hospitals under the framework of the State Health Policy-2017 and Vision-2047. He added that each AYUSH wing would also include a Panchakarma unit and instructed officials to expedite the work.

Officials aware of the development said that AYUSH wings are currently being developed in allopathy hospitals across 22 districts. The state is also working on setting up five new Ayurvedic colleges and launching 50-bed AYUSH hospitals in 12 districts. AYUSH Minister Inder Singh Parmar, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain and other senior officials were in attendance at the meeting.
