Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav has reiterated his commitment to making the state drug-free, calling for sustained administrative action and closer surveillance of areas identified as drug hotspots. He has directed officials to keep a particularly sharp watch on such locations and ensure that efforts to curb substance abuse remain under regular review.

The Chief Minister has been holding meetings with senior administrative officials as part of what he has described as a mission to free Madhya Pradesh from drugs. He has stressed the need to protect young people from substance abuse and instructed authorities to maintain continuous vigilance in cities where drug-related activities are suspected.

CM Dr Yadav has also called for monthly meetings at the district level to monitor the progress of the campaign. He said administrative activities should be carried forward in line with the broader vision of a drug-free India.

Campaign under regular review

The Chief Minister recently held a video conference with district collectors and superintendents of police to review measures being taken under the campaign. During the meeting, he noted that the Centre's Drug-Free India campaign was also being reviewed regularly.

According to the Chief Minister, the state government is conducting continuous reviews and taking strict action against those involved in drug-related offences. He directed the police and Excise Department to undertake joint operations whenever necessary and not hesitate to take coordinated action.

Officials made a presentation during the meeting outlining the action being taken against the production, trade, consumption and trafficking of narcotic drugs and other intoxicating substances.

They said the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act provides for stringent legal action against such activities. Under the Act, 2,706 cases have been registered across Madhya Pradesh this year.

Officials further reported that, up to August 2026, 46,313 kg of narcotic substances had been seized from 3,690 accused persons.

Administration steps up preventive measures

Authorities told the meeting that action was continuing on several fronts, including the seizure of banned cough syrups and efforts to create drug-free premises within a 500-metre radius of educational institutions.

The administration is also working to secure the support of 'Nasha Mukt Mitras' (Drug-Free Friends) and strengthen the role of drug de-addiction centres across districts. A dedicated drug-free helpline, 14446, has also been put in place as part of the state's efforts to prevent substance abuse and provide support related to the campaign.
