Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav has placed education and the welfare of those associated with the sector among the key priorities of his administration. Alongside efforts to strengthen learning opportunities for students and improve the role of teachers, the state government is also focusing on providing timely support to the families of teachers and employees who have died while in service.

Under the leadership of CM Dr Yadav, the School Education Department has accelerated the disposal of long-pending cases seeking compassionate appointments, providing eligible dependent families with an important source of financial support and stability.

851 appointment orders issued over five days

The School Education Department has stepped up efforts to clear pending compassionate appointment cases involving the families of deceased teachers and employees. Employee welfare camps have also been introduced, through which teachers and other staff members can submit their grievances online and seek quicker resolution.

As part of the initiative, 251 more compassionate appointment orders were issued two days ago. With this, a total of 851 appointment orders have been issued over the past four to five days.

The move is aimed at ensuring that eligible family members receive the benefits due to them without prolonged delays. For families that have lost their primary earning member, compassionate appointments can provide a measure of financial security and help them rebuild their lives with dignity.

Focus on modernising education

The government has simultaneously been working towards making Madhya Pradesh's education system more quality-driven, technology-enabled and employment-oriented. Its initiatives span school education as well as higher education, with an emphasis on better resources for students, greater use of technology and a stronger role for teachers.

Students are being provided facilities such as free textbooks, bicycles, uniforms, laptops and scooters under various schemes. The government has also developed modern educational facilities through Sandipani Schools.

To streamline admissions and other academic processes, the Education Department has introduced Education Portal 3.0 and a Student Directory Management System, taking several services and processes into the digital domain.

₹25,000 laptop assistance for meritorious students

The government has also sought to strengthen students' access to digital resources. Under the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana, students securing 70 per cent or more marks in the Class 12 board examination are provided ₹25,000 to purchase a laptop.

Earlier this month, more than 1.21 lakh students received over ₹300 crore directly in their bank accounts under the initiative. The assistance is intended to help students use digital resources as they pursue higher education.

55 PM Colleges of Excellence

In higher education, 55 Prime Minister's Colleges of Excellence have been developed across the state's 55 districts. Alongside conventional subjects, these institutions place emphasis on vocational and employment-oriented courses.

The Education Department has also taken steps to establish centres for the Indian Knowledge Tradition, provide bus facilities for students and improve access to information about new courses. The broader objective is to expand higher-education opportunities for students within their respective districts.

Teachers seen as key partners in reform

The government has also sought greater engagement with teachers while pursuing education reforms. In January this year, teachers who delivered outstanding work were felicitated, with Dr Yadav highlighting their contribution to improved results and rising enrolment in government schools.

On Teachers' Day in September, the Chief Minister interacted directly with young teachers from across the state and sought their views on education policy, technology and the changing needs of students.

The government's approach increasingly emphasises that education should go beyond examinations and degrees. Alongside academic learning, the focus is on technology, skills and employment opportunities, with initiatives across schools and colleges aimed at preparing students for the changing demands of the economy and job market.
