Bhopal. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav participated in the workshop on “Affordable Power Procurement of Renewable Energy and Energy Storage” organized by the All India Discoms Association in Bhopal on September 22. He inaugurated the workshop by lighting the ceremonial lamp. He also released the Association’s book.
Addressing the workshop, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the state government is committed to providing electricity to all the people of the state at affordable rates. At present, electricity has become an essential requirement in all sectors. Along with the increasing consumption of electricity, the state government is also paying special attention to its production and maintenance. He said that new units have been started with new technology to increase electricity generation in the state. He said that during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has witnessed a 360-degree transformation. When the issue of increasing the production and use of green and clean energy was raised at the G20 Summit, India became the only country in the world to achieve the target of 50 percent green energy production. This has been possible only due to Prime Minister Modi’s strong determination and resolve. Madhya Pradesh, which once faced frequent power cuts, has now become a power-surplus state.
We Are Breaking Our Own Records
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the state had witnessed a long period of power cuts, but now we are continuously breaking our own records in the field of renewable energy generation. Each region of Madhya Pradesh has its own distinct speciality. Greenko has established a 2,000 MW capacity plant in Neemuch-Mandsaur. This will be one of the most unique and largest projects in the country. Usually, it takes 4 to 6 years to complete such a large project, but fortunately, in Madhya Pradesh, the work is being completed in just two to two-and-a-half years. The state government is committed to resolving all kinds of challenges arising in electricity generation. He said that the deliberations at this workshop would prove highly useful for power companies.
Increase in Power Generation Capacity
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that from the formation of Madhya Pradesh until 2002-03, the state’s electricity generation capacity was only 5,000 MW. But today, our electricity generation capacity has reached 32,000 MW. Green energy accounts for 30 percent of this. Prime Minister Modi has introduced the country to the power of solar energy. Due to the use of solar energy in the country, a reduction of more than 20 crore tonnes in carbon emissions has been recorded. Instead of thermal power and other conventional methods, we are now generating electricity through wind, solar and pumped storage. He said that in Madhya Pradesh, electricity is now being generated from water as well as above water.
MP Implementing Schemes at a Rapid Pace
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the Solar Electricity Storage Project established in Morena in the Gwalior-Chambal region will provide the cheapest electricity at Rs 2.70 per unit. The Energy Department has increased electricity generation capacity by implementing schemes at a rapid pace. Around 42 lakh smart meters have already been installed in the state. The state is moving towards round-the-clock renewable energy generation. He said that power companies should reduce their losses while increasing their capacity. Meanwhile, Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar, in his virtual address, said that the workshop would arrive at a conclusion that would make our electricity distribution companies more capable and empowered.
