Salman Khan-starrer ‘Maatrubhumi’ suffers delay after reshoots, release likely in June 2026

Maatrubhumi release date: Salman Khan’s much-awaited war drama, Maatrubhumi, earlier titled ‘The Battle of Galwan,’ has encountered another setback, as its release has likely been pushed to June from May 2026. The Apoorva Lakhia directorial has undergone extensive reshoots following inputs from authorities, delaying its theatrical release.

Notably, the film is inspired by the Galwan Valley clash between India and China. Sources indicated that the Ministry of Defence advised the filmmakers to adopt a more fictional narrative to avoid diplomatic sensitivities.

Khan respected the request and reshot nearly 40% of the film, incorporating additional romantic elements and a deeper backstory for his character. The revised version was subsequently titled ‘Maatrubhumi’ and was submitted for certification.

Maatrubhumi release date: Nod pending from CBFC

Despite undergoing substantial revisions, the film is reportedly facing hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Insiders suggest that the approval process has delayed the scheduled May 15, 2026 release. With the certification still pending, a June release is being considered now, subject to final clearance.

Busy schedule ahead for Salman Khan

While awaiting the film’s release, Khan remains occupied with a packed slate. He is buckling up to commence shooting an untitled project backed by Dil Raju, targeting an early 2027 release. For the role, he is reportedly undergoing a physical transformation under director Vamshi Paidipally. Additionally, he is expected to feature in a superhero project helmed by Raj & DK in late 2026.

It is noteworthy that Maatrubhumi marks the first collaboration between Khan and Lakhia, and remains one of the most anticipated Bollywood releases of the year. The combination of a sensitive geopolitical backdrop, extensive reshoots and the star’s commitment has kept industry attention firmly fixed on the project.

Khan was last seen in Sikandar, which underperformed at the box office, making the success of Maatrubhumi even more crucial for the actor’s upcoming trajectory.
