IPL 2026 Rana Gaikwad fined: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a penalty on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Delhi Capitals (DC) batter Nitish Rana on Sunday, even as CSK notched up their first win of the IPL 2026 season on Saturday.
Gaikwad was penalised Rs 12 lakh, as his side maintained a slow over-rate during their clash against DC at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. It marked CSK’s first offence under Article 2.22, which pertains to minimum over-rate violations.

Earlier violations reported in the season
Notably, the ongoing 19th edition of IPL has already recorded numerous such violations. Shreyas Iyer was penalised twice this season; first with a Rs 12 lakh fine and subsequently a fine of Rs 24 lakh for a repeat offence while headlining Punjab Kings.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans’ skipper Shubhman Gill was also fined for a similar breach during a fixture against Delhi Capitals earlier this month.
Rana penalised for on-field misconduct
Rana was notably fined for an on-field altercation with the umpire. The incident unfolded late in the innings when teammate Tristan Stubbs was denied permission to change his gloves, leading to visible frustration.

Rana was fined 25% of his match fee and was also handed one demerit point for violating Article 2.3 of the Code, which related to the use of audible obscenity. He admitted to committing the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee.

Despite the disciplinary setbacks, CSK emerged victorious in their match against DC, trampling them by 23 runs. This is CSK’s first victory this IPL season, after facing three consecutive defeats. Sanju Samson lit up the match with a scintillating 115*, stitching a 113-run partnership with Ayush Mhatre to power CSK to 212/2.

In response, DC faltered under pressure, with Jamie Overton delivering a match-winning spell of 4/18 to bundle them out for 189.
