IPL 2026 Pandya David fined: Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Tim David on Monday drew disciplinary action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following a high-octane Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash at Wankhede stadium on April 12. The encounter at the stadium stretched to an unprecedented  4 hours and 22 minutes, making it the longest match of the current season.

Pandya was imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the clash. As this marked the franchise’s first offence of the season, the penalty was confined to a monetary fine. Interestingly, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar did not face any action, despite the prolonged duration of the fixture raising questions over time management.

Tim David disobeys umpire’s instructions

Meanwhile, Tim David was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching the Article 2.4 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which related to disobeying an umpire’s instruction. The 30-year-old was also handed over one demerit point. The Australian batter accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee, acknowledging his Level 1 offence during the 20th match of the campaign.

The controversy stemmed from an incident in the 18th over of RCB’s innings. After smashing a towering six off Hardik Pandya, David was spotted engaging in a prolonged and playful exchange with on-field umpires Virender Sharma and Swaroopanand Kannur.

As officials called for a ball change, David examined the replacement unit and continued to toy with it despite being instructed to hand it over. The situation escalated for a brief moment before umpire Sharma issued a stern warning, prompting David to comply. Since then, the incident has drawn criticism from cricket enthusiasts and friends alike.
