IPL 2026: Cricket prodigy Vaibhav Sooryawanshi has already made rapid strides in the cricketing world, but India’s former batter Robin Uthappa believes the teenager still has a lot to learn, as he buckles up for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Sooryawanshi, who was in the news for emerging as the youngest player to secure a contract in the IPL and smashing the fastest century by an Indian in the tournament, is set to face his second season in the league with heightened expectations.

Uthappa urges Sooryawanshi to stay grounded
Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa claimed that he had closely monitored Sooryawanshi’s performances over the past year, and found him to be possessing phenomenal talent. He, however, also cautioned that the teenager appears to be relying slightly on his fortune while batting.
Uthappa then said that the ‘novelty factor’ surrounding the teenager has begun to fade and the upcoming season could be a challenging yet educational phase for him. He further said that while Sooryawanshi is likely to continue his run-procuring spree, replicating the extraordinary impact he made last season might not be easy.
Sooryawanshi logged a record-breaking debut season in IPL 2025
Sooryawanshi represented Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, and made an explosive start to his IPL career by smashing a six off the very first ball he faced. Two matches later, he hammered a blistering century off just 35 deliveries against Gujarat Titans, setting multiple records in his name. In total, he logged as many as 252 runs in seven IPL 2025 matches, maintaining a staggering strike rate of 206.55, which remains unmatched till date.
Sanju Samson departs from RR
The Rajasthan Royals are set to enter IPL 2026 with a revamped setup. Ravindra Jadeja has been signed for the squad, while long-time captain Sanju Samson has departed. Riyan Parag will essay the role of skipper for the team.
