A 26-year-old woman in Bhubaneswar’s Nayapalli area has alleged that a masked man entered her rented home late Wednesday night, threatened her with a firearm and sexually assaulted her. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the complaint.
Woman Was Alone at the Time
According to her complaint, the woman was alone at home when the alleged intruder knocked on the door. After she opened it, the man allegedly forced his way inside, gagged her and threatened her with a gun before the alleged assault. Her elder sister, with whom she lives, was reportedly away at the time.
Weapon Was Not Confirmed
Police are also trying to determine whether the weapon allegedly used by the man was a real firearm or a toy gun. The alleged attacker reportedly fled after the incident. Police are examining the woman’s statement and other evidence to establish the sequence of events.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
Investigators are checking CCTV footage from the neighbourhood and nearby roads to track the suspect’s movements. Police are also questioning residents and examining how the alleged intruder entered the house. A special team has reportedly been formed to trace the unidentified suspect.
Police Have Vital Clues
Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M said investigators had obtained important leads and were working to solve the case. Police are also examining whether the alleged attacker was actually a stranger to the woman or had any prior acquaintance with her.
The woman has undergone a medical examination, and her statement has been recorded as part of the investigation. Police have not publicly identified any accused person at this stage.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the exact circumstances of the incident will be established through the police probe and available evidence.
