A 42-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her 17-year-old son following an argument at their apartment in Lucknow’s Rajendra Nagar area, police said. The incident took place on Thursday morning at Vision Apartment near Rajendra Nagar crossing under Naka Hindola police station.
The teenager was taken into custody after the incident.
Dispute Reportedly Linked to Gender Identity
According to police, the teenager had been living separately from his family following disagreements related to his gender identity and plans for gender-affirming treatment. Police said he had gone to meet his family when an argument reportedly broke out with his mother.
The exact circumstances of the argument and what happened inside the apartment are still being investigated. Reports have differed on some details, and police have not established a final motive.
Mother Suffered Fatal Head Injuries
Police said the teenager allegedly attacked his mother on the head with a heavy tool, reported to be an iron wrench. She suffered serious injuries and died at the apartment.
A forensic team visited the scene and collected evidence, including the suspected weapon. The woman’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
Teenager Called Police Himself
After the alleged attack, the teenager reportedly remained at the apartment and informed police about what had happened. Officers reached the location and took him into custody for questioning. Police are now examining the sequence of events leading up to the death.
Investigation Underway
Police are questioning the teenager and other family members while examining forensic evidence from the apartment. Officials are also looking into the family’s circumstances and the disagreements that reportedly existed before the incident.
Because the accused is 17 years old, the case will also be handled under the applicable provisions of India’s juvenile justice system. The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against the teenager have not been tested in court.
