A woman aged 19 was allegedly abducted and was gang-raped by a group of six men at an abandoned dak bungalow in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police reported on Wednesday. According to police, the incident was reported from the Talasari area, after which they launched a probe. One accused has been arrested in connection with the incident, while three others have been detained for interrogation.

Woman whisked away from highway

As per the complaint, the woman had been on an outing with a male friend on the day of the incident. The duo was reportedly standing near a highway when six men arrived on two bikes.

The bike-borne men approached the duo and forcibly took the woman to an abandoned dak bungalow situated in an isolated area nearby. As per police, the accused violated the woman at the scene. 

After the incident, the survivor lodged a complaint at the Talasari Police station, on the basis of which, police registered a rape case against all six accused and launched a probe into the incident. 

One accused held, three detained

Acting on the complaint, police arrested one accused and detained three others for questioning. The other two accused, according to sources, are on the run at present. Police have formed multiple teams to trace and apprehend the accused duo. 

Meanwhile, the investigating police personnel are also recording the statements of the survivor woman, her friend and other relevant witnesses as they continue to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the alleged sexual assault. 

Police officials are working to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the incident and gathering evidence from the location where the woman was allegedly abducted. 

Role of each accused being established

A senior police official said the cops are working to establish the exact role allegedly played by each of the six accused and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Moreover, the cops are also collecting evidence which could strengthen the case against the accused and corroborate the statements recorded by the police.
