Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh and wrestler The Great Khali have backed a campaign seeking help for Baljinder Singh, a truck driver from Punjab’s Pathankot district who, according to his family, has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia in a drug-related case.
Baljinder’s family appealed for intervention, saying he was unaware that a package he carried contained narcotics. The family is seeking efforts to prevent the death sentence.
Baljinder’s Family Shares Its Account
Baljinder, a resident of Sujanpur, worked as a truck driver in Dubai for nearly 10 years and transported goods between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, according to his family.
The family said he has been in custody in Medina since February 6, 2024. They claim an acquaintance asked him to carry a package described as medicine. At the UAE-Saudi border, narcotics were allegedly found inside the package, leading to his arrest.

Diljit Appeals For Investigation
During an Instagram Live session, Diljit said he did not know all the facts of the case but urged authorities to ensure a proper investigation so that no innocent person is punished.
The family has appealed to the Indian government for assistance. Former MP Avinash Rai Khanna forwarded the family’s representation to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Khali Urges Support
The Great Khali posted a video urging people to support Baljinder’s family and raise their voice over the case.
According to the family, higher courts have upheld the sentence and an appeal for royal clemency was rejected. Details of the Saudi court judgment, including the type and quantity of narcotics recovered, are not publicly available.
Saudi authorities and the Indian government have not independently confirmed the sentence described by the family. The allegations regarding Baljinder’s lack of knowledge about the package remain the family’s account at present.
