Indian shooters continued their impressive run at the Asian Games 2026 on Monday, with Himanshu Dhillon winning silver and Rudrankksh Patil securing bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event.

China’s Olympic champion Sheng Lihao claimed the gold in a closely contested final, finishing with 254.2 points. Dhillon produced a score of 252.4 to take silver, while Patil ended his campaign with 230.9 points for bronze.

The double podium added to India’s growing medal haul in shooting and capped another productive day for the country’s rifle shooters.

Rudrankksh leads early, late slip costs him

Patil appeared firmly in contention for gold for much of the final. He made a strong start, scoring 52.8 in the opening series before extending his lead with 53.2 in the second series.

After 12 shots, Patil was leading the field with 127.4 points, followed by Dhillon on 126.6 and Sheng on 126.3. The battle remained tightly contested as the final progressed, with the Chinese shooter eventually moving ahead.

Patil’s challenge suffered a setback with a 9.7 towards the closing stages, after which he slipped to third and eventually finished with the bronze medal.

Dhillon, meanwhile, remained consistent under pressure and held on to second place to secure his first Asian Games individual silver.

Men’s team also wins Silver

Earlier on Monday, Patil, Dhillon and Parth Mane combined to win silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event.

The Indian trio recorded a combined score of 1890.1 points at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery. China’s Sheng Lihao, Ma Sihan and Zhang Changhong took gold with 1899.0 points.

The result meant Patil and Dhillon returned to the range for the individual final with another medal already secured.

Shooting continues to deliver for India

India’s shooting campaign had already yielded medals in the women’s 10m air rifle competition. Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod won silver in the team event, before Elavenil added another silver in the individual competition.

With the men’s team silver and the individual medals won by Dhillon and Patil, India’s shooting medal tally rose to five at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

The performances have come despite reported logistical difficulties faced by India’s shooting contingent in Japan. The shooters encountered delays with transport and travel to training venues, with journeys reportedly taking considerably longer than expected.

Despite those challenges, the Indian rifle shooters have continued to produce podium finishes, with Dhillon and Patil adding another chapter to the country’s strong start at the Asian Games.
