India and Pakistan delivered everything the high-profile Asian Games final promised. What could have been a one-sided contest instead turned into a tense thriller, with Pakistan mounting a spirited chase before India held their nerve to secure the gold medal.

At Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, India posted 211/6 after being sent into bat, the highest total of the tournament. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with 61 off 28 balls, while Tilak Varma smashed an unbeaten 51 from just 22 deliveries.

Abhishek sets the tone, Tilak delivers late surge

Abhishek produced a breathtaking start, reaching his half-century in just 20 balls; the most such fifties by any player in the format. India raced to 81/2 during the Powerplay, putting Pakistan under immediate pressure.

Pakistan's spinners eventually slowed India's momentum through the middle overs, but Tilak ensured the innings finished with a flourish. He combined with Shivam Dube, who made 27, for a crucial 62-run partnership before taking India beyond the 200-mark.

Tilak remained unbeaten on 51, striking at more than 230, as India finished with a formidable 211/6.

Pakistan also missed opportunities in the field, with dropped catches and missed run-out chances giving some Indian batters valuable second lives.

Hasan Nawaz sparks Pakistan fightback

Chasing 212, Pakistan initially struggled to find momentum, but Hasan Nawaz transformed the contest with a remarkable innings.

Nawaz smashed an unbeaten 96 from 51 balls and, alongside Saim Ayub, launched a powerful counter-attack. The pair added 87 runs, briefly leaving India under serious pressure as Pakistan's chase gathered pace.

India's bowling options were tested as Pakistan threatened to pull off an unlikely chase. Washington Sundar eventually produced a crucial spell, while Jasprit Bumrah helped apply the brakes during the closing overs.

With Pakistan needing 33 runs from the final six deliveries, the equation finally moved decisively in India's favour. Shivam Dube defended the last over to complete a 19-run victory.

India complete cricket Gold double

Pakistan finished on 192/6, despite Nawaz's outstanding effort, handing India their seventh consecutive T20I victory over their rivals.

The triumph also completed a golden double for India in cricket at the 2026 Asian Games. The Indian women's team had already won the women's gold medal, meaning both cricket titles went India's way.

For India, the victory represented another successful defence of their Asian Games men's cricket crown. For Pakistan, Nawaz's extraordinary 96 was not enough to prevent India from finishing the tournament with gold.
