Indore news: Two employees of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) died of suffocation inside a sewer tank filled with toxic gas in MP’s commercial capital, Indore on Monday evening, the police said. Meanwhile, the third worker, who tried rescuing the duo, managed to escape death narrowly.

Incident occurs near Choithram Mandi Gate
According to reports, the incident occurred in the Zone-13 area near the Choithram Mandi gate on Monday evening. The police said the ones who died have been identified as Karan Yadav and Ajay Dodiya, who were employed as workers with the IMC. As per preliminary information, the civic workers were on duty till 5 PM. At around 6:30 PM, an IMC team had been carrying out the cleaning of a sewer tank in Zone-13. The team had deployed machinery and a suction tanker for the purpose.
Pipe falls into chamber, worker dies while retrieving it
During the operation, a section of the cleaning pipe fell inside the chamber. One of the workers descended into the tank to retrieve it, but failed to come out, and did not respond either. To check in on him, another employee climbed down to rescue him.
An eyewitness named Akbar told the media that when both the workers failed to return, he peeped inside to find them lying unconscious. Keeping in view the gravity of the situation, he too went down to assist.
Local porter braves toxic gas chamber, escapes death narrowly
A porter present at the scene, identified as Aman, tied a rope around his waist and entered into the toxic chamber. By means of a hook, he tried to pull one of the workers out. Although he had inhaled some gas, he managed to escape.
Workers pronounced dead at hospital, police mount probe
Deputy Commissioner of Police of Indore, Krishnalal Chandani said that the police rushed both the workers to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. He added that the duo’s bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and cops from the Rajendra Nagar police station have launched a probe into the incident.
