Indians’ death in US-Iran war: As many as six Indian Nationals lost their lives in the ongoing conflict across West Asia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Saturday, even as efforts continue to shield nearly 10 million Indians residing in the region.

Notably, the latest casualty was reported from Riyadh, where an Indian citizen fell prey to a missile and drone strike earlier this week, marking the first such fatality in Saudi Arabia since the conflict intensified. 

Fatalities reported from multiple nations

According to the MEA, two Indians were earlier killed in an attack in an industrial area in Oman on February 13, 2026. Additionally, three Indian seafarers lost their lives in attacks on merchant vessels during the early days of the conflict, while another citizen is still missing. 

MEA Secretary (Gulf), Aseem Mahajan expressed condolences to the departed souls and maintained that the Indian embassy in Riyadh is coordinating with local authorities to repatriate the victim’s body at the earliest.

Dozens of Indians, including workers and seafarers, have sustained injuries in attacks across several countries, such as UAE, Iraq and Oman. The government claimed it has stepped up diplomatic outreach and evacuation measures to safeguard Indian citizens. It is noteworthy that 15 Indian crew members from an oil tanker attacked near Basra are also being brought back via Saudi Arabia, while arrangements are being ensured simultaneously to repatriate the remains of a dead seafarer. 

300,000 Indians return home after US, Israel locked horns with Iran

Since the beginning of the conflict on February 28, 2026, close to 300,000 Indians have returned home, the statistics provided by the government suggest. Special flight operations have been ramped up, particularly from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman, with additional non-scheduled services arranged by regional carriers. 

During the briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that over 900 Indians have been evacuated via land routes through Armenia and Azerbaijan after crossing from Iran. As per MEA’s claims, Indian missions continue to facilitate cross-border movement to ensure safe passage for stranded nationals, while airspaces remain shut in parts of the region.
