Cheti Chand Mahaparv 2026: On Friday, the Sindhi community of the state immersed in the celebrations of Cheti Chand, and its members organised a grand procession in MP’s Ujjain. State Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav flagged off the procession and inaugurated it by hoisting a saffron flag. The CM’s move marked the beginning of celebrations with great fervour and devotion.
The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the state, and wished for their prosperity as well as happiness. He said that Cheti Chand strengthens the spirit of a united India, inspiring values of harmony, cultural pride and social cohesion among citizens.

CM propagates message of unity, cultural pride
CM Dr Yadav, while addressing the attendees of the procession, also shed light on the cultural significance of the festival. He underscored that Cheti Chand serves as a reminder of India’s rich heritage and shared traditions. During this, he also invoked the blessings of Lord Jhulelaal, expressing hope that every household remains abundant with joy, prosperity and peace.
Sindhi community members ensured attendance in thick numbers on the occasion. They celebrated the Sindhi New year with music, dance and devotional fervour.

The event was further enlivened by the presence of several celebrities, including Rajya Sabha’s former MP and actress Jaya Prada, Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah fame Kush Shah and Bollywood star Aftab Shivdasani. Several distinguished members of the Sindhi community also showed up at the procession. Other public representatives who attended the programme included Member of Parliament (MP) Anil Firojiya, MLA Anil Jain Kaluheda and Ujjain Mayor Mukesh Tatwal. Community leaders and organisers such as Sanjay Agrawal, Mahesh Pariyani and Dr Jitendra Jethwani also marked their presence at the procession.
What is Cheti Chand?
Notably, Cheti Chand is the most significant festival of the Sindhi community and marks their traditional new year. It is celebrated on the second day of the Shukla Paksha in the Chaitra month, and also commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Jhulelaal, who is believed to be an incarnation of the water deity Varuna.
The festival is observed with deep devotion every year and symbolises faith, resilience and unity, bringing together communities in celebration of shared cultural roots.
