Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhooth Bangla’ release pushed back amid Dhurandhar 2’s box office storm

Bhooth Bangla release postponed: Producer Ekta Kapoor on Thursday announced a revised release date for her upcoming film, Bhoot Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar. According to industry sources, the step has been taken to avoid a direct clash with the runaway success of Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge.’

The horror-comedy was originally slated to be released on April 10, and will now hit the theatres on April 16. The film’s first show has been scheduled for 9 pm. The decision follows the unprecedented box office momentum of Dhurandhar 2, which has maintained a stronghold at the box office even weeks after its release.

Spy-thriller registers record-breaking run

The spy-thriller has emerged as a box office juggernaut, reportedly minting Rs 1,100 crore in India and exceeding Rs 1,400 crore mark globally within just two weeks. Its sustained theatrical draw has prompted distributors and exhibitors to give a second thought to release strategies for upcoming films.

Kapoor, while announcing the postponement of Bhooth Bangla on social media, said that the decision was taken after consultations with industry stakeholders. She noted that Dhurandhar 2’s exceptional performance is heartening for the industry, and the shift in Bhooth Bangla’s schedule will allow both films the space, focus and attention they deserve.

Bhooth Bangla release postponed: Buzz for horror-comedy remains intact

Despite the delay, Bhooth Bangla continues to generate strong buzz, fuelled by its music releases and family-friendly trailer. Its paid previews will reportedly begin from April 6, maintaining audience engagement ahead of the new release date. Notably, the film has also reunited actor Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Priyadarshan after 14 years, whose last collaboration was Khatta Meetha, a 2010-release.
