Bhosle leaves behind a legacy of versatility, reinvention
Bhosle, often hailed as the ‘Queen of Versatility,’ redefined playback singing in Hindi cinema with her acumen to seamlessly blend classical Indian melodies with Western-influenced styles of the 1960s and 1970s. Although she faced comparisons with her elder sister, late Lata Mangeshkar early in her career, she carved a distinct path with her dynamic vocal range and experimental approach.
From soulful ghazals to energetic cabaret numbers, as well as rock-and-roll tracks, she brought a new, modern voice to Bollywood. Notably, she often became the signature sound for bold and unconventional female characters on screen.
