AP Honour killing news: A chilling case of honour killing emerged on Sunday from Andhra Pradesh, where a woman in her 20s was allegedly murdered by her father and one of her relatives, and a police officer was suspended for allegedly attempting to shield the crime. The police said that the woman who was killed had been in a relationship that her family disapproved of. On March 4, 2026, she left her house and married her partner, triggering outrage among her kin.

Cop hands her back to family
As per reports, the woman who was murdered has been identified as Chowdeshwari. Following her disappearance, her family lodged a police complaint, and the cops launched a hunt to trace her. On March 15, the local Circle Inspector (CI) traced the couple in Macherla. Investigating police personnel alleged that he coerced Chowdeshwari into returning to her parental home, despite her objections.
As per sources, the officer issued threats to her and handed her back to her family. Just three days later, Chowdeshwari was found dead at her house.
AP Honour killing news: Autopsy report takes the wraps off the crime
Initially, her kin claimed that she died by suicide. However, when the autopsy report arrived, it contradicted the family’s version, confirming that her death was a homicide. Medical experts said that she had been suffocated with a pillow while she was asleep. Following the findings, the police arrested her father, named Chandrasreenu, along with another relative. The cops said that the duo killed her owing to anger over her marriage.

Cop under scrutiny
Post-arrest, the circle inspector who had traced the couple and had forced Chowdeshwari to return home has been suspended. Claims of him having accepted a bribe from the victim’s family have also emerged. Authorities said they are currently examining bank transactions and cash withdrawals to establish any financial link between the accused and the suspended cop. The officer, if proven guilty, will likely face charges including criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and bribery.
