A powerful spell of strong winds, dust and rain caused damage in Burgampadu mandal of Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district, uprooting trees and blowing away roofing sheets. A few people suffered minor injuries, while there were no reported fatalities.

Strong Winds Create Panic

The storm-like weather swept through the area on Wednesday evening, with residents reporting suddenly dark skies and powerful winds. Trees were uprooted, debris was scattered across roads and roofing sheets were blown away. Traffic was also disrupted for some time because of fallen trees and debris.

No Loss of Life Reported

A fruit vendor was reportedly injured, while others suffered minor injuries during the incident. Officials had not confirmed whether the phenomenon was an actual tornado, with reports describing it as severe gale-force winds.

IMD Issues Extreme Rain Warning

The India Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in Telangana on September 24 and 25, along with thunderstorms and strong surface winds. Heavy rain is expected to continue on September 26.

The warning comes as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves towards the North Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coast.

Several Districts On Alert

Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem are among the areas facing the severe weather threat.

Other districts, including Adilabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanamkonda, are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Hyderabad May Also See Rain

Hyderabad is likely to remain cloudy, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers expected. Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious as heavy rain, lightning and strong winds are forecast across parts of the state over the next few days.
