Almost two days after the residents of the Rampura village near Rajasthan’s Jaipur allegedly assaulted a team of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which was being led by the party’s co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka, the state government has sanctioned funds for a new building for a government primary school there. Notably, the CJP team had gone to the village to conduct inspection of the state under which the government-run school had been operating. 

As per a report by news agency PTI, the school building’s construction is slated to begin on September 1, 2026. The report further claimed that Rs 18 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of the new building of the Government Primary School located in Rampura. Of the said amount, Rs 12 lakh was sanctioned from the District Mineral Foundation trust (DMFT) on August 13, while the remaining Rs 6 lakh has been allocated from the MLA fund. 

The announcement was made late Saturday night, a day after a CJP team visiting the village under its ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign was allegedly attacked following a confrontation with villagers. Sources said FIRs have been registered from both sides in connection with the incident. 

CJP welcomes decision to reconstruct school building

Reacting to the government’s announcement, CJP co-founder and spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the outfit’s immediate demand concerning the Rampura school had been addressed, but underscored that its wider campaign highlighting the condition of government schools would stay in force. 

Ranka said, “We had not gone there to seek votes. We had gone to talk about getting the school fixed. Now that the government has approved the start of work from September 1, that issue, including our 48-hour warning, is over.” 

However, he raised questions over why the construction work could not have been initiated earlier and said there was no justification for the violence allegedly seen during the CJP team’s visit. 

He added, “If the government is genuinely concerned about the future of children, get the schools repaired. We are not here to fight, but we will neither retreat nor be intimidated.” 

CJP seeks timeline for repairs at school

Ranka further claimed that the decision regarding the Rampura school was a testament to the impact of the CJP’s campaign and urged party workers to continue visiting government schools, as well as stage peaceful demonstrations wherever necessary. He then demanded a concrete timeline from the Rajasthan government for repairing schools across the state. As per him, close to 3,000 school buildings are in a dilapidated state, while 611 of them are functioning without their own buildings.
