Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced on Saturday that he will lead a march to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s residence on August 4, 2026, and shall submit a citizens’ petition seeking changes to the E20 fuel policy brought into effect by the Union government.

While addressing a town hall meeting, Kejriwal said he would reach PM Modi’s residence at 12 in the noon, along with 100 people to present the memorandum to him. He claimed that close to 7 lakh people watched the town hall online, where people voiced concerns over the Centre’s ethanol blending programme and its impact on consumers.

AAP leader lists three key demands

During the interaction, AAP’s top leader said citizens had raised three primary demands before the Centre. The first demand is that consumers should be provided with the option to choose between regular petrol and E20 fuel at petrol stations, rather than being compelled to purchase a blended fuel. 

Secondly, he pleaded with the Union government to slash the prices of petrol, saying that the current price of Rs 84/litre should be brought down to provide relief to consumers. Voicing the third demand, he called for a reduction in ethanol prices, which, according to him, would help address concerns surrounding the cost of blended fuel. 

The AAP chief opined that the aforementioned demands reflect the views expressed by participants during the town hall discussion. 

AAP Chief takes aim at Centre over ethanol policy

Kejriwal stepped up his critique of the Centre’s ethanol blending programme, alleging that the policy was being pursued under pressure from the United States. He then claimed that the US is the world’s largest producer of ethanol and alleged that India is expected to import ethanol valued at USD 2.5 billion from the US this year.

He contended that the Union Government should reconsider his approach to the E20 fuel policy in light of these concerns and ensure that consumer interests remain a priority. 

Concluding his statements, the AAP leader said the proposed march on August 4, 2026 is intended at conveying public concerns to PM Modi through a citizens’ petition. He reiterated that he would be accompanied by around 100 people while submitting the memorandum at the Prime Minister’s residence.
