Saurav Das, the spokesperson of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) approached the Delhi High Court (HC) on Friday, seeking legal action against commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra, as well as several law portals and platforms for allegedly publishing and circulating details related to his residence in the public domain. 

As per a report by news agency PTI, Das has sought protection of his right to privacy, security and dignity, besides damages over the alleged violation of his privacy rights. 

Plea seeks removal of posts, videos

In the suit filed by him, Das has sought permanent and mandatory injunctions against Iyer, X, Google and several law portals and media outlets, seeking to restrain them from publishing, circulating or disclosing his residential address and other personal details. 

Moreover, he also sought directions for the removal and disabling of public access to videos and social media posts which allegedly contain such details. 

As per the plea, Das has been residing at a rented accommodation in Greater Kailash since 2025. He alleged that the defendants unlawfully discovered, recorded, published and repeatedly disseminated his residential address and other personal information, including details about his background, sexuality and parents. 

He then alleged that some of the defendants trespassed into the shared residential premises, recorded videos of its interiors and subsequently posted them on ‘X’. 

Das claims threats to safety 

Relying on various videos posted on social media, Das claimed that revelations linked to his journalistic work, public-interest activities and political engagement had exposed him to violent threats. 

He contended that the repeated publication and amplification of his precise residential address had created a ‘real and foreseeable risk’ of him being subjected to violence at or around his home. 

The plea comes amid a broader dispute over the alleged publication of personal information concerning Das and the manner in which the material was propagated online. 

Delhi Police approached earlier with similar complaint

Notably, earlier in August 2026, Das claimed in a post on ‘X’ that several YouTubers and media channels had entered his accommodation and broadcast visuals from inside the premises. He called it a breach of privacy, saying it posed a security risk to him and his family. 

After the incident, he lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police, seeking action under provisions relating to criminal house trespass, criminal intimidation, defamation and criminal conspiracy.
