Bihar BJP MLA and singer Maithili Thakur has become the subject of a social-media debate after a video showed her arriving at Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja in a Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

The luxury SUV’s Mumbai on-road price can exceed ₹13 crore, depending on the variant and taxes. However, there is no confirmed information that Thakur owns the vehicle.

The video shows Thakur seated in the rear of the chauffeur-driven SUV as it made its way through the crowd outside the Ganesh festival venue. The vehicle was reportedly registered with the Vashi RTO. Reports say it remains unclear whether the car was owned, rented or provided through another arrangement.

Social Media Posts Compare Car With Affidavit

The controversy intensified after social-media users compared the luxury car with details from Thakur’s 2025 Bihar Assembly election affidavit.

However, a key detail in the viral claim is incorrect. Thakur did not declare a net worth of ₹3. According to affidavit data compiled by the Association for Democratic Reforms’ MyNeta, she declared total assets worth ₹3.82 crore, with no liabilities.

Her declared assets included a residential property in Dwarka, Delhi, valued at ₹1.5 crore at the time of the affidavit. The affidavit also listed her profession as a singer, with income sources including social media and brand endorsements.

Ownership of Rolls-Royce Not Established

The appearance of the Rolls-Royce has led to questions online about who owns or arranged the vehicle. But the available reports do not establish that the SUV belongs to Thakur.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan seen in the video has an ex-showroom price of around ₹10.5 crore, while its on-road price in Mumbai can rise to more than ₹13 crore depending on the model.

Kangana Ranaut Defends Thakur

The controversy also drew a response from BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, who defended Thakur and questioned criticism of politicians using luxury vehicles. Her comments were made amid the social-media backlash surrounding the viral video.

For now, the central issue remains unverified: there is no confirmed evidence that Maithili Thakur owns the Rolls-Royce seen in the video. The ₹3-net-worth claim circulating online is also contradicted by her filed election affidavit, which records assets of ₹3.82 crore.
