A flight operated by Air India, which took off from MP’s capital Bhopal, and was bound for Delhi, was diverted to Jaipur and made an emergency landing on Sunday morning, after its left engine reportedly suffered a technical snag. During this, a full emergency had been declared at the Jaipur Airport. 

Flight AI1886, which was shuttling from Bhopal to Delhi, managed to land safely at the Jaipur Airport at around 9:40 am, sources familiar to the development said. Subsequently, the aircraft was taken for inspection as authorities and the airline adhered to the prescribed safety measures. 

Air India confirms diversion

The airline confirmed that the flight was diverted to Jaipur owing to a technical issue. The airline issued a statement, which read that the diversion was conducted as per laid down procedures, and that the aircraft had landed safely. 

Thereafter, the airline apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected disruption and said efforts were underway to ensure they reached Delhi within the stipulated time. 

The statement added, “The airline regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers by this unforeseen situation and every effort is being made to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest.” 

Continuing its statements, the airline said its ground team at the Jaipur Airport was providing immediate assistance and support to the passengers after the diversion. It said, “At Air India, the safety of our passengers and crew remains top priority." 

Passengers sent to Delhi by road

Sources privy to the airline told the media that the Delhi-bound passengers were subsequently sent to the city by road and that they had reached the national capital. Meanwhile, the aircraft remained stationed at the Jaipur Airport and was undergoing technical checks to determine the nature of the problem. 

The incident has surfaced against the backdrop of heightened attention to aviation safety, and the airlines’ requirements to comply with the established procedures whenever an aircraft develops a technical snag during operations. 

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported during the incident. Meanwhile, the airline has not indicated when the aircraft will be cleared for service. The technical inspection’s findings will determine the next course of action for the aircraft.
