Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Deora on Monday visited patients undergoing treatment at Bundelkhand Medical College in Sagar after they were affected by the consumption of illicit liquor in the Bunda area, assuring that the illegal liquor trade would be completely curbed.

Following directions from state Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav, Deora announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of those who died in the incident.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the treatment being provided to the affected patients and sought details of the action taken by the health department, police and district administration.

Strict action against negligence

Deora directed officials to ensure a complete crackdown on the illegal liquor trade and ordered action against anyone found negligent at any level. He said CM Dr Yadav had already called for stringent action in the entire case.

The Deputy Chief Minister instructed the district administration to inspect all liquor shops, regularly monitor their stocks and conduct a thorough investigation into the network involved in the illegal manufacture, transportation and sale of liquor.

He directed officials to identify those responsible and take strict action against them.

One patient shifted to AIIMS Bhopal

Officials briefed Deora about the condition of patients affected by the illicit liquor and stressed that those undergoing treatment must receive close medical attention.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed doctors and officials to ensure that there was no negligence in their treatment. One critically ill patient has been shifted to AIIMS Bhopal, while the condition of most of the other patients is now stable.

Deora also directed that specialist doctors should remain available round the clock as required and that there should be no shortage of medicines, medical equipment or other essential resources.

13 arrested, action against 30 accused

According to officials, action is being taken against 30 accused at Bunda police station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act, 1915.

Of these, 13 accused have been arrested so far.

Deputy CM meets patients and families

Deora visited the ICU and critical care ward at Bundelkhand Medical College and met patients undergoing treatment. He obtained updates on their health from doctors and instructed the medical team to ensure all necessary treatment and facilities were provided.

He also interacted with the patients and their family members, assuring them that the state government stood firmly with the affected families during the crisis.

The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the government would take stringent action against those involved in the illicit liquor trade while ensuring that every possible medical facility was made available to those affected.
