More than 7,500 meritorious students across Madhya Pradesh are set to receive a special incentive from the state government on September 19, when state Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav will distribute e-scooters to high-performing Class 12 students at a state-level function in Bhopal.

The initiative is aimed at making daily commuting easier for students while encouraging them to continue their education after completing school. The distribution ceremony will be held at Government Subhash Excellence Higher Secondary School in Shivaji Nagar, Bhopal.

Students selected from Bhopal and neighbouring districts will attend the event in person, while students, public representatives and officials from other parts of Madhya Pradesh will join the programme virtually.

The state government has positioned the scheme as an educational support initiative designed to ease transportation-related difficulties faced by students pursuing higher studies.

Govt school toppers eligible

The Chief Minister Scooty Scheme is intended for regular students enrolled in government higher secondary schools in Madhya Pradesh. Under the scheme, students who secure the highest marks in Class 12 at their respective government schools are selected, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions.

One of the key requirements is that students must secure at least 70 per cent marks in Class 12 in their first attempt. They must also stand first in their respective government school in the Class 12 examination.

Students fulfilling these conditions are eligible to receive the benefit under the scheme.

Over 23k students already benefited

According to the Madhya Pradesh government, more than 23,000 meritorious students have already received scooters under the initiative. The government says the scheme has helped students commute more conveniently for higher education and has provided additional encouragement to pursue further studies.

For students in areas where access to convenient public transport can be a challenge, the provision of an e-scooter is intended to make regular travel to educational institutions easier.

Govt has spent over Rs 250 crore

The state government has so far spent around Rs 250 crore on the scheme to provide scooters to meritorious students. With more than 7,500 additional students scheduled to receive e-scooters on September 19, the programme is set to cover more beneficiaries.

The initiative remains focused on two key objectives; supporting academic excellence among government-school students and making their commute easier as they move towards higher education.
