Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav reached Rewa from New Delhi late Saturday night to take stock of the flood situation and, within hours, was on the ground in flood-affected Chitrakoot, meeting victims and distributing relief material.

Soon after arriving in Rewa, CM Dr Yadav held an emergency meeting with senior officials through video conference to review the situation and assess the administration’s preparedness. As dawn broke on Sunday, August 30, he travelled to Chitrakoot and visited several flood-affected areas.

CM meets victims, distributes relief material

The Chief Minister reached the Chitrakoot Development Authority’s shelter facility, where he interacted with people displaced by the flooding and assured them that every possible assistance would be provided.

He also distributed relief material among the affected residents and directed officials to ensure that essential supplies reached those in need without delay.

Chitrakoot has witnessed exceptionally heavy rainfall, triggering a rise in the water levels of the Semrawal and Mandakini rivers. Floodwaters have entered several homes, damaging household belongings and causing considerable losses.

However, no loss of life has been reported so far.

After inspecting the affected areas, CM Dr Yadav told the media that the flood situation had developed following heavy rainfall and a subsequent rise in the water levels of the Semrawal and Mandakini rivers. He said several areas had been inundated, with residents suffering damage to their homes and belongings.

The Chief Minister credited the administration’s preparedness and prompt response for preventing any loss of life so far, adding that relief and rescue operations were continuing.

Essential aid being delivered to affected families

CM Dr Yadav said all necessary assistance was being provided to people affected by the flooding. While the extent of the damage was substantial, a detailed assessment was still underway.

“All concerned administrative officials are present on the ground and are continuously monitoring the situation,” he said.

The Chief Minister said he had instructed officials to immediately ensure arrangements for food, drinking water and medical assistance for flood-affected residents. He also stressed that there should be no shortcomings in relief and rescue operations.

Damage assessment to pave way for financial aid

CM Dr Yadav said he had stayed in Rewa the previous night and noted that, fortunately, it was daytime when the incident occurred. He added that the administration had already been placed on high alert in view of the weather forecast.

He said the vigilance of the authorities and the administration’s prompt action had helped avert any loss of life. “This flood has broken all previous records,” CM Dr Yadav said, while stressing that the government’s immediate priority was relief and rescue. He said efforts were focused on bringing the situation under control and ensuring that affected residents could safely return to their homes once the water level receded.

The Chief Minister said he had personally met flood-affected residents and instructed officials to provide them with dry ration and other essential items.

A formal survey will be conducted to assess the losses, including livestock deaths and damage to property. Those affected will be provided financial assistance in accordance with the applicable government norms.
