A 40-year-old paralysed and bedridden man met a painful death in Bengaluru at the hands of his wife, who suffocated him to death with the help of her mother and an accomplice, police reported on Sunday, adding that the crime unfolded on September 9, 2026. 

According to police reports, the victim’s wife, Shahina Banu, her mother Haseena Banu and Naheemuddin Qureshi had advised Shahina to polish her husband off, and have been arrested, as per a report by news agency PTI. 

Police said the incident took place on Wednesday, September 9, at the city’s Yellappa Garden in Kithaganur. The man who was killed has been identified as Mubarak, had been paralysed and was confined to bed for the past two years. 

Couple was married for 20 years

Police said the couple had been married for around two decades and had a daughter who, too, was unwell. Qureshi allegedly came into contact with the family while assisting them with the girl’s treatment. 

The police learnt that Shahina had told Qureshi that looking after her bedridden husband had turned a difficult chapter for her, and the cops suspect that she had subsequently developed a relationship with Qureshi. 

As per police, Qureshi allegedly advised Shahina to kill her husband, following which she and her mother conspired to kill Mubarak. Reportedly, the trio attacked Mubarak while he was asleep. He was allegedly suffocated and assaulted, which led to his death, according to police. 

Death passed off as heart attack

Post-incident, Shahina and her mother allegedly told Mubarak’s kin that he had died of a heart attack, in an apparent bid to conceal the crime. However, Mubarak’s brother grew suspicious and approached the police. Avalahalli Police then registered a case and launched a probe. 

After the autopsy, it was learnt that Mubarak had died of asphyxiation. It also found that he had sustained injuries to his private parts, according to the PTI report. Acting upon the findings, the cops questioned the suspects, Shahina, Haseena and Qureshi, who confessed to committing the crime. All three of them were arrested thereafter.
