The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday intensified its attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as it staged a protest outside the party’s headquarters in the national capital. The BJP workers demanded the resignation of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains over allegations of numerous paper leaks in the state. 

The protests were led by Delhi BJP Chief Harsh Malhotra, party workers, Members of Parliament (MPs), MLAs and senior office bearers, who congregated outside the AAP office on Ferozshah Road, close to Mandi House, accusing the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of failing to shield the integrity of public examinations.

“Multiple paper leaks ensued under AAP Govt”: BJP

During the protest, BJP leaders alleged that at least 6 exam papers had been leaked during the AAP’s 4.5-year tenure in Punjab, leaving nearly 30 lakh students in troubled waters. 

Protestors also hailed slogans against the Punjab government and called for immediate accountability, insisting that the state’s Education Minister Bains and other ministers responsible for the education sector should resign. 

The BJP resorted to protests after recent remarks made by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who asserted that no exam paper had been leaked in Punjab under his party’s rule. He maintained that while a handful of exam-takers had tried to cheat during an examination at two centres using digital pens, officials detected the malpractice immediately and no paper leak had taken place. 

Cops deployed outside AAP office in thick numbers

As BJP supporters assembled in large numbers outside the AAP headquarters, Delhi Police deployed substantial security personnel to maintain law and order and keep any untoward incident at bay during the protest. 

The political confrontation marks a reversal of roles for AAP, which had recently supported the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in the aftermath of NEET UG 2026 paper leak. 

The CJP-led agitation eventually led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, intensifying the national debate on exam irregularities. 

Political tensions flare in Punjab

The paper leak row has picked up pace in Punjab, where state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon accused the AAP of failing to address allegations surrounding the examination scams. 

He called for the immediate resignation of both the state’s education and health ministers, alleging that the government had failed to maintain accountability and transparency in the recruitment and examination process. 

Notably, earlier in the week, the BJP MPs had also staged a protest within the Parliament premises, reiterating their demand for Harjot Singh Bains’ resignation. Additionally, Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal called for a CBI probe into what she termed ‘11 examination scams’ during the AAP’s tenure in Punjab.
