Kerala: Minor girl aged 13 alleges sexual harassment by classmates; police probe underway
A minor school-going girl aged 13 has alleged that she was relentlessly sexually harassed at the hands of her classmates over several months, the police said on Sunday, adding that they have begun working out the case. Meanwhile, the State Child Rights Commission has also taken cognisance of the case.
As per police, the alleged incidents took place in May 2026 at multiple locations, including the school premises, the house of one of the accused girls and the school’s washroom. As many as 10 persons, including a girl, have been named as accused in the horrifying case, out of which, six are minors.
Survivor narrates ordeal during counselling session
More shocking was the fact that the case came to light when the survivor girl opened up on the abuse during a counselling session conducted at her school. Following this, the case was reported to Childline authorities, who, in turn, alerted the police. After recording the girl’s statements, the cops have launched a probe into the allegations.
Cops collecting evidence
The investigating police personnel said the minor was allegedly subjected to repeated sexual harassment by several of her classmates at different locations. The cops are now recording statements of all the people linked to the case, collecting evidence and are examining the circumstances under which the alleged incidents unfolded.
Officials are also probing whether the case is associated with any another sexual assault case reported from the area around one-and-a-half years ago. The police said the case is being probed from all angles.
Kerala State Commission takes cognisance through media reports
Meanwhile, the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has registered a suo motu case after media reports pertaining to the alleged harassment emerged. Officials said they have sought a detailed report from the police on the incident and the progress of the probe.
Police said they are conducting an in-depth probe into the incident, and further action shall be taken based on the evidence gathered and the statements recorded during the course of the probe.
