Ukraine faces another night of war under a barrage of claims about devastating military losses but the full scale of the reported destruction remains unverified.

Claims of Heavy Losses

Reports circulating amid the escalating Russia-Ukraine war claim that as many as 10 Ukrainian fighter jets have been destroyed, alongside two airbases and hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers. However, independent confirmation of those specific figures was not immediately available.

Recent attacks have nevertheless demonstrated the continuing intensity of the conflict. Reuters reported that Russian strikes across Ukraine killed civilians and damaged infrastructure, while Ukrainian officials said hundreds of drones had been launched in recent attacks.

Air Power Under Pressure

Ukraine's air force and air-defense network remain critical to the country's ability to withstand Russian missile and drone attacks. In July, Ukrainian officials reported that Russia had launched more than 70 missiles and more than 280 attack drones during a major assault, while Russia said it had targeted Ukrainian military and industrial facilities.

For now, the most important question is not whether Ukraine will disappear overnight, but how much further the conflict will escalate and what its next phase will mean for Ukraine's military, civilians and infrastructure.
